How to Publish a Map

Aug 17Features

Overview

Publishing a map lets you create a public version of your Mindmup map that you can share with a wider audience. This is useful when you want to present finished work, distribute information, or make a map available publicly rather than invite people individually.

When publishing, you can add a Title and Short description. Advanced settings also let you specify a Custom URL and Google Analytics ID.

Publish a map

From the Home dashboard, click the Actions (three-dot) menu next to the map and select Share. If the map is already open, click Share in the top-right corner.

  1. Go to the Publish section.
  2. Enter a Title for the published map.
  3. Add a Short description to provide context for people viewing it.
  4. Open Advanced settings if you want to configure a Custom URL or Google Analytics ID.
  5. Click Publish.

Use advanced publishing settings

Mindmup provides additional options when you need more control over your published map.

Custom URL lets you configure the URL used for the published map.

Google Analytics ID lets you add a Google Analytics identifier to the published map.

You can leave the advanced settings unchanged if you do not need these options.

Example use cases

Publishing can be useful when you want to:

  • Share a finished mind map with a wider audience.
  • Make educational material available to students or readers.
  • Publish a visual guide or reference map.
  • Share the results of a brainstorming or planning project.
  • Distribute a map without inviting each viewer individually.

Tips

  • Give your published map a clear title so viewers immediately understand what it is about.
  • Use the short description to explain the purpose of the map or provide useful context.
  • Review your map before publishing to make sure it does not contain information you do not want to make public.
  • Use a Custom URL when you want a more recognizable address for your published map.
  • Add a Google Analytics ID only if you want to use Google Analytics with the published map.
  • If you only need to give specific people access to your map, use regular sharing instead of publishing.

Common questions

What's the difference between publishing and sharing a map?

Sharing controls who can access the working map and whether they can view or edit it. Publishing is intended for making a map publicly available to a wider audience.

Why can't I publish a map?

Your organization's privacy settings can allow or block members from publishing maps publicly. If publishing is unavailable, your organization may have disabled this option.

What should I check before publishing a map?

Review the map and make sure it is ready for public viewing. Check the content, title, and description, and remove anything you do not want to make publicly available.
