Mindmup for Google Workspace administrators

This document outlines key information for Google Workspace domain administrators whose organizations use Mindmup to store maps on Google Drive.

Installing Mindmup

Mindmup is available through the Google Workspace Marketplace.

The easiest way to install it is directly from the Marketplace listing. You can also review the Google Workspace Marketplace entry and the Chrome Web Store entry for additional details.

Pricing

Mindmup is available on a Starter plan at no cost.

Some operations—such as map conversion and publishing—require Mindmup server resources. These operations involve third-party processing and hosting costs, so usage limits apply to Starter accounts to prevent abuse and keep the service sustainable.

With a Personal, Team, or Organization subscription, these limits are removed. Subscriptions are available for individual users or across an entire domain.

For organization-wide licensing, see the Organization subscription options. Personal subscription details are also available on the Mindmup website.

Security and privacy

In most cases, the browser communicates directly with Google Drive and Google Workspace services. When users store maps in Google Drive, the data is stored and managed by Google—not by Mindmup. More details are available in the Privacy Policy.

To help educational institutions restrict usage to Google services only, the Mindmup application for Google Drive runs as a fully isolated website. This prevents users from accidentally storing data outside Google-controlled environments.

Some operations, such as exporting maps to PDF, cannot be performed entirely in the browser. In these cases, maps are temporarily and securely uploaded to Mindmup servers for processing. Once complete, a secure link to the result is returned to the user. Technical details are available on the Data Security page.

Mindmup Atlas allows users to publish read-only versions of their maps. When a map is published to Atlas, its content is uploaded to Mindmup servers and made publicly accessible. Administrators with Organization subscriptions can control whether Atlas publishing is enabled for their users, helping prevent accidental exposure of private data.

What Mindmup can access on Google

  • Mindmup requests limited, user-scoped access only. Specifically:
  • Online access only, acting on behalf of the currently logged-in user during the active browser session
  • Per-file access to files the user explicitly opens or creates with Mindmup
  • No background or server-side access to Google Drive
  • Read-only access to basic profile information (name, email address, profile photo) for collaboration features
  • Installation access so users can create and open files directly from Google Drive

Optional permissions include:

  • Uploading images to Google Photos so users can add images through the Google Picker
  • Read-only access to selected Google Drive files for embedding as images through the Google Picker

Google API scopes

Mindmup requests the following Google API scopes:

  • drive.file
  • drive.install
  • photos.upload
  • email
  • profile
  • drive.readonly

More information about these scopes is available in Google’s documentation for OAuth scopes, Drive file scopes, and Google Picker scopes.
