Keyboard Shortcuts in Mindmup

One of Mindmup’s guiding principles is productivity. Keyboard shortcuts are available for almost every map editing action. Learn a few of these, and you’ll be able to capture and organize ideas much faster.

Mac notes

On macOS, Ctrl and Cmd can both be used for shortcuts marked as Ctrl below. Some browsers block certain key combinations. If Cmd + Space doesn’t work in your browser, try Ctrl + Space instead.

Node manipulation

Enter — Add sibling (horizontal layouts) or add child (vertical layouts)

Shift + Enter — Add sibling above

Shift + Enter — Line break when editing node text

Tab — Add child (horizontal layouts) or add sibling (vertical layouts)

Shift + Tab — Insert parent

Ctrl + D — Insert new disconnected node (new root)

D — Disconnect selected node

Enter — Edit node

A — View or edit node attachment

I — Add an image or change the existing image or icon

Backspace or Delete — Remove node

Ctrl + Up / Down Arrow — Move node up or down

T — Increase font size

Shift + T — Decrease font size

Alt + T — Reset font size

Shift + Ctrl + R — Right-align node text

Shift + Ctrl + L — Left-align node text

Shift + Ctrl + E — Center-align node text

Shift + S — Edit node stickers

Editing

Ctrl + S — Save

Ctrl + X — Cut

Ctrl + C — Copy

Ctrl + V — Paste

U or Ctrl + Z — Undo

R, Ctrl + Y, or Ctrl + Shift + Z — Redo

Selection

Arrow keys — Select the node up, down, left, or right of the currently selected node

Shift + Arrow keys — Add adjacent node to selection (useful for multi-selecting siblings)

{ — Select the current node and its entire subtree

[ — Select only the subtree under the current node

= — Select all sibling nodes with the same parent

. — Cancel multi-selection and select only the current node

0–9 — Select all nodes at a specific level

0 — Select the root node and recenter the view

Ctrl + F — Find a node by part of its title

Navigation and screen

/ or F — Expand or collapse a node

Alt + F — Hide one level below the selected node

Shift + F — Expand one level below the selected node

Ctrl + + or Z — Zoom in

Ctrl + - or Shift + Z — Zoom out

Esc — Reset the map view, select the root node, and center it on the screen

Ctrl + B — Convert the floating toolbar to a menu (press again to convert back)

Ctrl + Shift + B — Hide the top menu (press again to show it)

Notes & reactions

N — Edit notes for the selected node

R — Toggle reactions and emojis

Argument mapping

Alt + S — Add a supporting reason

Alt + O — Add an objection

Enter — Add a child claim

Tab — Add a sibling claim

Ctrl + D — Add a disconnected claim

Alt + N — Add a sticky note

Alt + T — Toggle implicit claim or supporting reason or objection

Alt + L — Label a reason or objection

D — Disconnect an element
