Today we’re opening the doors to Mindmup 3.0.
It’s a soft launch, but it’s a big moment for us.
Mindmup has been around for a long time. And for many people, it’s been a quiet, reliable place to think, plan, teach, and untangle ideas. It did its job well, and we worked hard to keep it running smoothly year after year.
But the truth is, it hadn’t seen a true, foundational refresh in over 12 years.
The world changed. Tools changed. Expectations changed.
Mindmup… mostly stayed the same.
It started to feel outdated. Heavy in places. Lacking some of the modern approaches people now expect. And while the legacy product remained simple and usable, it was clear that it was time to bring it back to life.
So we didn’t patch it.
We didn’t reskin it.
We started over.
A Quick, Important Reassurance
Before anything else: legacy Mindmup continues exactly as it always has during this soft launch.
Nothing there is changing.
- Your maps stay exactly where they are
- Your teams and structure stay the same
- Your workflow is not disrupted
Mindmup 3.0 runs alongside the legacy version. You can explore it freely, try things out, then switch back to legacy at any time. Nothing is touched unless you choose to engage with the new experience.
What We Were Trying to Preserve
One thing mattered more than anything else.
Mindmup was always simple.
That simplicity was its strength, and we didn’t want to lose it. The rebuild wasn’t about adding noise or turning Mindmup into a complicated “do-everything” productivity platform.
It was about protecting the purity of mind mapping, while modernizing everything around it.
We wanted Mindmup to feel lightweight again. Fast. Calm.
Less like a productivity tool that quietly makes you anxious, and more like one that’s actually a joy to use.
A place where thinking feels easy.
What Changed (and What Didn’t)
Under the hood, everything changed.
Mindmup 3.0 is built on a brand-new foundation. It’s faster, cleaner, and more intentional. Interactions are smoother. The interface is clearer. The product gets out of your way.
But if you’ve used Mindmup before, it should still feel familiar.
The core ideas are the same. The flow is the same. The experience is just… better.
More polished. More modern. More alive.
What’s New Today
With the new foundation in place, we’ve started introducing features that fit naturally into this refreshed experience.
Already live:
- Teams, designed to stay simple
- Guest Pass, so sharing doesn’t come with friction
- Enhanced Version History, clearer and easier to trust
- A brand-new Notes experience, with proper rich text that finally feels right
Each of these exists because it solves a real problem we’ve seen people run into over the years.
What’s Coming Next
Mindmup 3.0 is just getting started.
Over the coming weeks, we’ll be rolling out:
- Real-time collaborative editing
- Comments and threads
- Present mode for sharing ideas as stories
- A desktop app
- Thoughtful, restrained AI that supports thinking without taking over
No gimmicks. No overload. Just meaningful additions, introduced carefully.
A Better Free Plan
We also wanted to fix something that never quite sat right.
With the new Starter plan, your maps don’t expire. Ever.
There are no size limits. No countdowns. No pressure. You can create, explore, and come back whenever you want.
If Mindmup becomes central to your work, we have paid plans that unlock more. If it doesn’t, that’s okay too.
Why a Soft Launch?
Because we want this to feel right.
This soft launch gives us space to listen, adjust, and polish before a full rollout. If something feels off, we want to know. If something clicks, we’ll lean into it.
You’re not just early users. You’re part of the reset.
Take a Look
Same simplicity. A modern foundation. A calmer way to think.
We’re excited for you to try it. Check it out.
