Mindmup Introduces a New Pricing Model

Mar 11News

This is not a change we ever wanted to make.

Since Mindmup first launched in 2013, we’ve done everything we could to keep pricing simple and extremely affordable. For more than a decade, the price stayed exactly the same. Our goal was always straightforward: build the best mind mapping tool we could and keep it accessible to as many people as possible.

Over the years, we intentionally kept Mindmup inexpensive, even as the product grew and the world around it changed.

But the reality is that the cost of operating and maintaining the platform has increased significantly. Infrastructure, security, development, and ongoing improvements all require resources, and the original pricing model is no longer sustainable.

So for the first time in over a decade, we’re updating Mindmup’s pricing.

This change comes alongside the launch of Mindmup 3 and a completely rebuilt foundation for the product. The new pricing model is designed to support the future of Mindmup while still keeping it one of the most affordable tools available.

Personal Plan

The Personal plan is designed for individuals who use Mindmup on their own.

Under the new pricing:

  • $6 per month (billed annually)
  • $9 per month (billed monthly)

This plan continues to provide full access to the editor and advanced features for individual users.

Teams and Organizations

For collaborative use, Mindmup now uses a per-seat pricing model.

This means pricing scales based on the number of members collaborating in a workspace.

  • $3 per seat / month (billed annually)
  • $5 per seat / month (billed monthly)

There are minimum seat requirements for collaborative plans:

  • Team plans require a minimum of 3 seats
  • Organization plans require a minimum of 5 seats

You can see the full plan breakdown and feature comparison on the pricing page.

How Existing Teams Are Assigned a Plan

For teams and organizations that migrated from the legacy version, the new plan is determined based on the number of active members currently using Mindmup.

For example, a legacy Team 100 account may technically allow up to 100 members. But if that team currently has 12 active users, it will automatically inherit the closest matching tier in the new structure.

In this case, the account would move to the Team – 15 Seats plan.

Teams can always upgrade and downgrade later if more or less members need access.

This approach ensures teams pay for the level of usage they actually have rather than the historical limits of legacy plans.

A Better Free Plan

Alongside the new pricing model, the Starter plan has also improved.

In the legacy version, free maps had limitations that could sometimes feel restrictive.

With the new Starter plan, maps no longer expire and there are no size limits. You can create maps, return to them whenever you want, and continue working without worrying about countdown timers or map expiration.

Paid plans remain available for users who need advanced features or team collaboration.

Why the Pricing Model Is Changing

The original pricing model was created when Mindmup was a much smaller product with a simpler infrastructure.

Over time, the platform has grown significantly. More people use Mindmup for collaboration, teams are larger, and the product now runs on a far more capable foundation.

The new pricing structure reflects that reality.

Instead of fixed tiers that didn’t always match actual usage, the new model is based on the number of people collaborating in a workspace. This allows pricing to scale naturally with teams while remaining predictable for smaller groups.

At the same time, the improved Starter plan ensures individuals can still explore and use Mindmup freely.

Even with these changes, Mindmup remains one of the most affordable mind mapping tools available today. Our goal continues to be the same as it was from the beginning: keep the product accessible while delivering as much value as possible at the lowest sustainable price.
