Fixing Google Drive Sharing Issues

This page explains why Google Drive sharing may be unavailable and what you can do to fix it.

Why this happens

When Google Drive widgets can’t authenticate third-party apps, they sometimes show vague error messages like:

“Sorry, sharing is unavailable at this time. Please try again later.”

Unfortunately, this message is confusing and misleading. It’s generated by Google, not Mindmup, and retrying later usually won’t help.

The issue is typically caused by something in your browser or network blocking Google authentication cookies on third-party sites. In this case, Mindmup is treated as a third party.

How to fix it

There are two reliable ways to resolve the problem.

Option 1: Find what’s blocking Google authentication

Most of the time, this is caused by a misconfigured browser extension or strict privacy setting.

  • Temporarily disable browser extensions, especially ad blockers or privacy tools.
  • Check any browser or network settings that block third-party cookies.
  • See Google’s guidance on unblocking Google authentication for more detailed steps.

Option 2: Share directly from Google Drive

You can also avoid the issue entirely by sharing the map from the Google Drive web interface.

  • Open Google Drive in your browser.
  • Share the file directly from there.

Because there’s no third-party app involved, Google authentication works normally even if strict blocking is enabled.
