Overview
If your Mindmup map has become difficult to see or navigate because it contains a lot of information, you can use the built-in navigation tools to make it easier to work with. Auto Layout automatically arranges your nodes to help keep the map organized as it grows.
Folding sections, zooming, and navigating around the canvas can help you focus on the part of a large map you need.
Hide sections you are not using
If you only need to work on one part of the map, fold the sections you are not currently using.
Select a node and choose View › Fold/unfold. You can fold its entire subtree, fold one level, or fold all nodes.
You can also press F to fold or unfold the selected subtree.
Folding does not delete any nodes. You can unfold the section again whenever you need it.
Zoom in on the section you need
If the map is difficult to read because there are many nodes on screen, zoom in on the section you are working on.
Use Zoom in and Zoom out, or press Ctrl + Scroll on Windows and Cmd + Scroll on macOS.
Use Zoom to fit when you want to see the entire map again. Press Ctrl + 1 on Windows or Cmd + 1 on macOS.
Navigate around the map
Drag the canvas to move to different parts of a large map.
If you lose your place, use View › Recenter view to return to the center. The shortcut is Ctrl + 0 on Windows or Cmd + 0 on macOS.
Example Use Cases
You cannot see the whole map clearly
Use Zoom to fit to get an overview, then zoom in on the section you need.
You are working on one branch of a large map
Fold the other branches to reduce what is visible while keeping their contents in the map.
You are moving between different sections
Drag the canvas to navigate between sections, then adjust the zoom level as needed.
Tips
- Fold branches you are not working on to reduce the number of visible nodes without deleting them.
- Use View › Zoom to fit or Ctrl + 1 (Windows) / Cmd + 1 (macOS) when you need to see the overall structure of the map.
- Zoom in before editing a dense section so individual nodes are easier to read and select.
- Use Ctrl + 0 on Windows or Cmd + 0 on macOS to quickly recenter the map if you lose your place.
Common Questions
Will folding a section delete my nodes?
No. Folding only hides the nodes in that branch. You can unfold the section whenever you need to see them again.
Does Auto Layout help with large maps?
Yes. Auto Layout automatically arranges nodes as your map grows, helping keep the structure organized and reducing the need to manually reposition nodes.
Can I change the layout of a large map?
Yes. Use Customize layout & style to adjust the map's layout and style. The available layout options depend on the type of map you are using, including Standard mind maps, Org Charts, and Argument Visualization maps.
