Collaborate on Mind Maps in Real Time

Oct 23Features

Mindmup’s real-time collaboration lets you work on the same mind map with others, with everyone’s changes instantly synchronized. Whether you’re brainstorming with your team, planning a project, or working together in a classroom, everyone can contribute in real time.

Start Collaborating

  1. Open a mind map and click the Collaborator Tools button (your profile avatar) in the top-right corner.
  2. You’ll see a list of everyone currently viewing or editing the map.
  3. If no one else is listed, invite others to your map using Share. Once they open the map, they’ll automatically appear in the collaborator list.

There’s no special mode to enable. Simply open a shared map and start working together.

What You Can Do

Edit Together in Real Time

Multiple people can add, edit, move, and organize nodes simultaneously. Changes to text, connections, images, notes, colors, layouts, and other map elements are automatically synchronized for everyone.

See Who’s Collaborating

Everyone currently viewing or editing the map appears as a profile avatar in the top-right corner, next to your own avatar.

Each collaborator is assigned a unique color, making it easy to identify who’s doing what.

You’ll also see other collaborators’ cursors moving across the map in real time.

To show or hide collaborator cursors, go to Menu → View → Show collaborator cursors.

See What Others Are Editing

When someone edits a node, you’ll see their name beneath it, along with an outline in their assigned color.

This makes it easy to see who’s working on which part of the map.

To prevent conflicts, only one person can edit a particular text field at a time. Everyone else can continue working on other parts of the map.

Collaborate With Viewers and Guests

People with viewing permissions can see changes live without modifying the map.

You can also collaborate with people outside your team using Guest Pass, while maintaining their assigned permissions.

Stay in Sync

Mindmup automatically saves and synchronizes changes as you work. If your internet connection is briefly interrupted, Mindmup attempts to reconnect automatically and synchronize pending changes.

Who Can Use Collaboration?

Real-time collaboration is available for maps stored in Mindmup Cloud under Team and Organization plans, including maps shared with individuals or through Guest Pass.

Google Drive maps and anonymous guest maps do not support real-time collaboration.
