Converting old collaborative Google Drive files
From December 1, 2018, older collaborative Mindmup files stored in Google Drive became read-only, as previously announced.
To restore editing, the file owner must convert the map to the new file format. Until that happens, collaborators will only be able to view the file.
If you are not the file owner
You’ll need to contact the file owner and ask them to convert the map.
To check who owns a file:
- Open the Google Drive web app
- Right-click the file
- Select View details
- Check the listed owner
If you are the file owner
When you open a map that’s still using the old collaborative format, Mindmup will prompt you to convert it.
- Click Convert to New Format
This creates a new file that contains a copy of the original content.
After conversion
- The new file is fully editable
- It is a separate copy of the original file
- Existing collaborators do not automatically get access
If you want others to edit the new file, share it using standard Google Drive sharing options, including the Share button in the top-right corner of the Mindmup app.
