I Can’t Publish My Map

Sep 30Troubleshooting

Overview

If you cannot publish your map, check whether public publishing is allowed for your organization and review the publishing settings for your map.

Organization privacy settings can allow or block members from publishing maps publicly. If you are an organization member, you may need to ask your administrator to check this setting.

Check whether publishing is allowed

If you are part of an organization and cannot publish your map, the organization's Publishing maps setting may be blocking public publishing.

  • If you are an administrator: Go to Account › Privacy and check Publishing maps. This setting allows or blocks members from publishing maps publicly.
  • If you are a member: If publishing is blocked, the organization's Publishing maps setting may need to be reviewed by an administrator.

Check your publishing settings

Open the map, click Share in the top-right menu, and choose Publish.

If you entered a custom URL under Advanced settings, check that it is correct and try publishing again. You can also try publishing without a custom URL to see whether the custom URL is causing the problem.

Advanced settings also include a Google Analytics ID. If you are using one, check that it has been entered correctly.

If you are not using a custom URL or Google Analytics ID, you can leave Advanced settings unchanged.

Example Use Cases

You are a member of an organization

Your organization may have public publishing disabled. Ask an administrator to check the Publishing maps setting under Account › Privacy.

You are trying to publish a map with a custom URL

Check the custom URL under Advanced settings and try publishing again.

You want to publish a map for others to view

Use Publish to create a published version of the map. If public publishing is blocked by your organization, an administrator may need to change the organization privacy setting.

Tips

  • Ask your organization administrator to check Publishing maps if you cannot publish publicly.
  • Review the map's Title and Short description before publishing.
  • Check Advanced settings if you are using a custom URL or Google Analytics ID.
  • If you are part of an organization, confirm that public publishing is allowed before troubleshooting other settings.
