Overview
Duplicating a map creates a copy of an existing map, allowing you to reuse its structure, content, and formatting without modifying the original.
This is useful when you want to create a new version of a map, use an existing map as a template, or experiment with changes while keeping the original intact. When duplicating a map, you can also choose whether to keep the same sharing permissions as the original.
How to use it
- Go to the Home page.
- Locate the map you want to copy.
- Click the Actions (three-dot) menu next to the map.
- Select Duplicate.
- Choose whether to Share with the same people.
- Click Duplicate. A new copy of the map will be created.
Duplicate a map while editing
- Open the map you want to copy.
- Click the Mindmup icon in the top-left corner.
- Select File › Duplicate.
- Choose whether to Share with the same people.
- Click Duplicate to create the copy.
Example use cases
Duplicating a map can be helpful when:
- Creating a template for recurring projects.
- Building a new project based on a previous one.
- Preparing a new semester's lesson plan from an existing version.
- Creating a draft version before making major changes.
- Maintaining separate versions for different teams, clients, or departments.
Tips
- Rename the duplicated map right away so it's easy to distinguish from the original.
- Use duplication to create reusable templates for common workflows.
- Keep the original map unchanged as a reference while working on the copy.
- Review sharing permissions before duplicating if the map contains information that should not be shared with the same people.
