Overview
Exporting a map as a PDF creates a document version of your Mindmup map that you can save, share, or prepare for printing.
Mindmup lets you choose the Orientation, Page size, Background, and Image quality before exporting. This gives you control over how the map appears in the finished PDF.
Export a map as PDF
You can start the export from the Home dashboard or from an open map.
From the Home dashboard, click the Actions (three-dot) menu next to the map and select Export. If the map is already open, click the Mindmup icon in the top-left corner, then select File › Export.
- Select PDF.
- Under Orientation, choose Landscape or Portrait.
- Under Page size, choose Fit to map, A0, A1, A2, A3, A4, A5, US Letter, US Legal, or US Tabloid.
- Under Background, choose Same as map or White.
- Under Image quality, choose Optimized or High resolution.
- Click Export.
Example use cases
Exporting as PDF is useful when you want to:
- Send a finished map as a document.
- Prepare a map for printing.
- Submit a mind map for a class or assignment.
- Share a project plan with someone who does not need to edit the map.
- Keep a PDF copy of a completed map.
Tips
- Check whether Landscape or Portrait better matches the shape of your map before exporting.
- Use Fit to map when a standard paper size is not important and you want the page dimensions to match your map.
- Select a standard page size when preparing the PDF for printing on specific paper.
- Choose White if you want a simple background for printing.
- Use High resolution when image detail is important in the exported PDF.
- Review the organization and layout of a large map before exporting so the finished document is easy to read.
Common questions
Should I use Fit to map or a standard page size?
Use Fit to map when you want the PDF page to match the dimensions of your map. Select a standard size such as A4 or US Letter when the PDF needs to fit a particular paper format.
Should I choose Landscape or Portrait?
Choose the orientation that best matches the shape of your map. A wide map may work better in Landscape, while a taller map may be better suited to Portrait.
What's the difference between Same as map and White?
Same as map uses the background from your map in the PDF. White replaces it with a white background.
What if my exported PDF does not look right?
Try changing the Orientation, Page size, Background, or Image quality and export the map again. For additional help, see PDF Export Doesn't Look Right.
