Overview
Importing a Mindmup file lets you bring a previously saved Mindmup map back into Mindmup. This is useful when you have a map file stored on your computer or in Google Drive and want to continue working with it.
You can import a Mindmup file From my computer or From Google Drive.
Import a Mindmup file
If you already have a map open:
- Click the Mindmup icon in the top-left corner.
- Select File › Import Mindmup file.
- Choose From my computer if the file is stored on your device, or From Google Drive if it is stored in Google Drive.
- Select the Mindmup file you want to import.
Mindmup imports the file so you can open it and continue working with the map.
Example use cases
Importing a Mindmup file is useful when you want to:
- Continue working with a map you previously downloaded.
- Bring a locally saved Mindmup map back into your workspace.
- Open a Mindmup file stored in Google Drive.
- Work with a Mindmup file that was saved outside your current workspace.
- Keep local copies of important maps and bring them back into Mindmup when needed.
Tips
- Make sure you're importing a Mindmup file, rather than a PDF, image, outline, or notes export.
- Use From my computer when the file is stored on your device.
- Use From Google Drive when the file is stored in your Google Drive.
- Keep downloaded Mindmup files in an easy-to-find folder if you expect to import them again later.
- If you only have a PDF or image of a map, those files are different from a Mindmup file and should not be treated as a saved map file.
Common questions
What's the difference between importing a Mindmup file and opening an existing map?
Opening an existing map accesses a map that's already available in your Mindmup workspace. Importing lets you bring in a Mindmup file stored on your computer or in Google Drive.
Can I import a PDF or image as a Mindmup map?
Import Mindmup file is specifically for Mindmup files. PDF and image files are export formats and are not listed as options for importing a Mindmup file.
Why would I import a Mindmup file instead of keeping the map in Mindmup?
Importing is useful when you have a Mindmup file saved outside your workspace, such as a local copy you previously downloaded. You can import the file when you want to bring the map back into Mindmup and continue working with it.
