Overview
Moving a map to another team helps keep your workspace organized as projects, departments, or responsibilities change. Instead of creating a copy or starting over, you can transfer an existing map to a different team while keeping all of its content in one place.
You can move maps from the dashboard or while a map is open in the editor.
Move a map from the Home dashboard
- Open the Home dashboard.
- Find the map you want to move.
- Right-click the map and select Move.
- Choose the destination team. You can select a team from the list, search for a team, or click +New team to create a new one.
- Click Move.
Move a map while it's open
- Click the Mindmup icon at the top-left menu.
- Select Move.
- Choose the destination team. You can select a team from the list, search for a team, or click +New team to create a new one.
- Click Move.
After the move is complete, the map will appear in its new team's workspace.
Example use cases
Moving maps between teams is useful in many situations, such as:
- Moving a project from the Planning team to the Development team once work begins.
- Transferring lesson plans from a personal team to a shared department team.
- Reorganizing maps after creating new teams for clients, departments, or subjects.
- Moving a map into a newly created team without recreating its content.
Tips
- Use the search box if you have many teams and need to find one quickly.
- If the destination team doesn't exist yet, create it directly from the Move window.
- Consider adding or updating tags after moving the map to make it easier for team members to find.
- If you only need other people to work on a map, sharing it may be a better option than moving it.
Common questions
Will moving a map change its contents?
No. Moving a map only changes which team it belongs to. The map itself remains unchanged.
Can I create a new team while moving a map?
Yes. Select + New team, enter a team name, create the team, and then move the map into it.
What's the difference between moving and duplicating a map?
Moving transfers the existing map to another team. Duplicating creates a separate copy while leaving the original map where it is.
